![]() Hey, what a nice day! ![]() mushrooms galore ![]() ![]() sashimi ![]() later that evening... local sashimi fan ![]() Nada neighborhood temple ![]() Granite stepping-stone | Generally on Sundays, I persuade Tim to go on a walk with me around our neighborhood and to the grocery store. Today was one of those days. Mondai is the closest market with a good fresh section. It's about an 8-minute walk from our house. There is also an outdoor market about another 5 minutes walk from here. Most markets here have excellent fresh fish sections. Fresh mushrooms of all types seem to be really cheap right now, which is great because most of the other produce can be fairly expensive. I try to buy Japanese style vegetables because they are much cheaper than imported foods. It's possible to spend over $40 for a beautiful cantaloupe that still has a piece of the vine attached and is swaddled in foam padding. No thanks. I will however pay 125 yen (current exchange rate is 105 yen to the dollar) for a nice crispy apple or 398 yen for a bag of 6 or 7 satsuma-type tangerines. Yummy! |

One of my favorite stops on our neighborhood tour includes the waterfront plaza, Nagisa Park, and Hyogo Prefectural Art Museum designed by famed Japanese architect Tadao Ando. The sky was spectacular today and made for an excellent backdrop. We also discovered another temple near the waterfront. (It was somewhat hidden behind a parking lot on a busy street.) |
