December 24, 2004 - Kobe Disaster Reduction Museum

This morning, unwilling to waste another day surfing the internet (yesterday's fate), I spent some time catching up on journal entries and doing a new drawing, the first this month; shame, shame, shame. The drawing is of the Kobe Disaster Reduction Museum (we call it the earthquake museum) a few blocks from here on the Nada Waterfront. The drawing is ink with color added in photoshop - I've been looking at allot of Japanese color prints.

 December 24, 2004 - Christmas Eve Party

Carlos: chef and musician

Kalil: Tim's good friend (and lady-killer) from Yemen

Kampai!

Dance, dance, dance.

Who knew the amount of talent living in this dorm???

Trying to get my wish from Santa (Marcus Weib from Germany, who happens to be a Landscape Architecture student doing independent research in Kyoto.)

Santa giving the people what they really want!

On Christmas Eve, Tim whipped up his favorite pasta with Japanese mushroom recipe. We gathered up silverware, plates, and glasses for ourselves and headed up to the 6th floor of our dorm for an international Christmas celebration. Of course we brought a bottle of wine, but we also brought gifts for the present exchange. We wined and dined on traditional dishes from many continents. We danced to Latin music and toasted each other in at least 6 languages. We were also given an impromptu violin serenade. Then, much to our surprise, just past midnight, Santa barged through the door, with a sack full of all the exchange presents. He was a natural-born Santa. He made everyone sing or recite a poem and sit on his lap, or bend over for the spanking they deserved. It was incredibly entertaining and left us all smiling!
