The day after Christmas, we are enjoying having time off to catch up on journaling and hang out with our friends. Ling (from Malaysia) and Asahi-san, both friends from Tim's school lab came over to give us some cooking lessons. We started by going to the market where Ling and Asahi-san gave us tips on what to buy and helped me try to figure out how to avoid MSG (nearly impossible, it seems.) We went back to our place, where Asahi-san shared three of his own personal recipes with us: Fried chicken katsu (breaded and deep fried), Eggplant and peppers with miso, sake, and shoyu (my favorite), and Pork chops with mushrooms, sake, oosta sauce (I don't know what's in it), and ketchup! We had a good time and sent them on their way with some Satsuma-like oranges for the road. |
