November 16, 2004 - Lunch Break

Today I was feeling a bit restless as I worked on my morning Japanese vocabulary torture session. I had architecture on the mind and was having trouble focusing on my study. After about an hour of distracted concentration I flipped a coin to see if I could skip further studies and free myself to explore the ideas that kept interrupting my thoughts. Chance allowed me to skip. I spent the rest of the morning working on design. Just before my Japanese language class was supposed to start I flipped the coin again - I wanted to continue working on design but was having trouble convincing myself to skip class. The coin came up in my favor again... Playing hooky today boys! I worked excitedly for a few more hours before hitting a stopping point.

After a pause I realized that I had missed lunch and was starving. I grabbed my sketchbook and headed up the hill. I stopped at the last grocery before the city turns into forest and picked up a Japanese version of a Euro-lunch... Saltines (bread), overly processed, think "kraft", cheese (cheese), a tin of fish (sausage), and sake (wine). I took my plunder a short way up a trail next to a creek and sat down for lunch. After taking the edge off my hunger I documented my spread and then I drew a picture of some worn down houses along the creek below me.
